CSR has been part of Palsgaard's principles and values since before the term was invented. Find out why and how we work strategically within the areas of Corporate Governance, Energy & Environment, Products and Employees.

Palsgaard's Corporate Social Responsibility

109 years as a responsible entity

As far back as 1908, and long before "Corporate Social Responsibility" (CSR) was conceptualised, Palsgaard's founder Einar Viggo Schou established a strong tradition in responsibility. For him, this meant looking after employees and their families, the local communities in which Palsgaard operates, and society in general. More than a century on, CSR is still a strategic part of our business.

Palsgaard’s activities extend to over 100 countries, but we always bring with us a commitment to sustainability. We conduct ourselves in a financially responsible manner to maintain a profitable business through innovation, process optimisation and risk minimisation. This ensures that we remain a reliable supplier for our customers and an attractive, safe and caring workplace for our employees.

2016 highlights

  • CO2-neutrality achieved at Palsgaard Mexico.
  • Despite increased production volumes, total energy consumption per kilogram of finished product was reduced by 5%, while CO2 emissions remained unchanged.
  • Work-related accidents were significantly reduced.
  • Water consumption and waste water increased temporarily, requiring the installation of additional cooling capacity.
  • Having achieved certification to the RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS), MB and SG levels, we can now offer our complete product range as MB- or SG-certified products.
  • We further refined procedures for responsible supply management, expanding the proportion of spend sourced from suppliers assessed under the company’s Responsible Sourcing Programme from 80% to 85%.
  • We focused on areas that support the UN SDGs including, for example, reducing food waste, creating healthier recipes, and increasing food safety by using vegetable-based emulsifiers to replace petrochemical additives in polymers.
  • We revised employee conditions and benefits in Mexico, Malaysia and Russia.

A strategic priority

CSR is central to Palsgaard's activities and is overseen by a dedicated CSR Steering Committee comprising top management. Our 2016 CSR report details our strategic work within four specific CSR focus areas:
